Eddie Phelan BEng CEng MIEI

Eddie is a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer and CEO of VCL Consultants. He has operated the practice for the past 20 years providing consultancy services to the construction industry both locally and throughout Ireland and has provided structural audits to international companies in India & the Philippines.  

Eddie studied Civil & Structural Engineering in Dublin & London and achieved a first class honours degree from Kingston University and the John Brown Academic Prize for Structural Engineering.

As part of his continued professional development Eddie is an active committee member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (Ireland Branch) and a committee member of the Engineers Ireland Structures and Construction Division. Within this division Eddie is the representative on the heritage committee, the division liaison member for the Engineers Ireland Liaison Committee and the Engineers Ireland representative on the Irish CEN TC250(overall responsibility for all CEN work on structural design euro codes)subcommittee.  Eddie has also been recently appointed as chair of the Irish Masonry panel responsible for the development of 2nd generation Masonry codes, the Irish national Annex and publication of SR 325 (Recommendations for the design of masonry structures in Ireland to Eurocode 6) .

Eddie originally hails from Kildare but has lived in Drogheda since 1995, and he and his family have been embedded in the community since that date.

Eddie has maintained an interest in local business and community affairs, he has been a council member of Drogheda Chamber since 2012 and was Chamber president from 2015-2017.  He previously sat as chair of the tidy towns committee from 2007 to 2015 and was involved with the Local Heroes campaign, the Maritime Festival and the Fleadh Cheoil bid and delivery team.  He remains an active member of the Boyneside Trail committee.
